JR and OS GEMEOS go underground for the Lasco Project

Brazilian twins OS GEMEOS and French Art Photographer JR are at Palais de Tokyo in Paris where they have collaborated for the Lasco Project, curated by Hugo Vitrani. The Lasco project was born in 2012 when the Palais de Tokyo decided to dedicate part of its program to urban arts. Urban Interventions in the buildings of Paris have been undertaken by sixty international urban artists so far, including Futura 2000, Dran, Vhils, Lek & Sowat and recently Cleon Peterson.

For two days, JR and OS GEMEOS, have occupied the underground chambers of the Palais de Tokyo museum, highlighting its role during Paris’ occupation by the Nazis in World War II. The Nazi organisation Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Taskforce stole over eight thousand pianos over the course of the Paris occupation and after the liberation of the french capital, it was revealed that two thousand of the stolen pianos were stored underground of the Palais de Tokyo.

Utilising JR’s trademark black-and-white photography and collaborating this with OS GEMEOS colourful signature characters produces these thoughtful images that will stay underground forever.
