Banksy returns to Bristol, gifts mural to Bridge Farm Primary School

In another daring PR stunt (we’ve been told the caretaker had initially reported the piece as ‘vandalism’), world-renowned street artist Banksy has just completed painting this mural for the children at the Bridge Farm Primary school, who today came back to school from a half-term break, only to be taken by surprise with the new piece which was painted over night.

With his new piece entitled “Forgiveness Is Easier To Get Than Permission”  Banksy wants to thank the school (children) for naming a house after him by donating the piece to the local community.

In a letter sent to the school, Banksy says:

“Dear Bridge Farm School, thanks for your letter and naming a house after me.

Please have a picture, and if you don’t like it, feel free to add stuff.

I’m sure the teachers won’t mind. Remember, it’s always easier to get forgiveness than permission.

Much love, Banksy.”

 

In addition to the heartfelt letter, the graffiti artist has also signed the work in the bottom left hand corner.

The image shows a child running with a burning tyre, perhaps referring to the innocent Syrian children caught up in conflict.

[UPDATE: 4/8/16] The skies above the Syrian city of Aleppo filled with smoke earlier this week as children burned tires to create a makeshift no-fly zone in a last-ditch effort to protect their homes. This heartbreaking act of desperation directly followed recent air raids. The dense, black smoke from those fires rose over their neighbourhood limiting visual to planes who cannot identify targets.
