Space Invader is the pseudonym of a well-known French urban artist whose work is modelled on the crude pixellation of 1970s-1980s 8-bit video games. He took his name from the 1978 arcade game Space Invaders, and much of his work is composed of square ceramic tiles inspired by video game characters.
The French street artist Invader has recently invaded Clermont Ferrand, France with 31 mosaics. This is his 3rd wave to the capital, leaving 39 mosaics and earning 1480 points! He first visited back in 2001.
The Invader was last in Clermont-Ferrand for the very last screening of the movie Art4Sspace at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, one of the world’s leading international festivals for short films, as well as the corporate headquarters of Michelin. The city is also famous for the chain of volcanoes, the Chaîne des Puys surrounding it and the famous dormant volcano Puy de Dôme , which is 10 kilometres from the city.
These new mosaic creations refer to movies and cinema but also Clermont Ferrand gothic cathedral, volcanos, Michelin man and its Serge Gainsbourg street.

The Invader has released a smartphone app ‘Flash Invaders’ . Fans accumulate points by shooting photographs of his work, submit pictures to Invader’s website and receive points for the photos.
Invader’s work has become popular with collectors. In March 2015, a large piece sold at auction for almost $350,000 at Christie’s in Hong Kong.
