Space Invader is the pseudonym of a well-known French urban artist whose work is modelled on the crude pixellation of 1970s-1980s 8-bit video games. He took his name from the 1978 arcade game Space Invaders, and much of his work is composed of square ceramic tiles inspired by video game characters.
The Invader has made it his mission to invade the world with his mosaic creations. They can be found all over the world including, London, France and his invasions can be tracked here.
With his successful Earth Invasions the Invader wanted to step it up to the next level!!… and invade Space!
His location of choice was the International Space Station (ISS) thanks to the European Space Agency (ESA). The space invader mosaic had taken off on July 29th 2014 aboard European spaceship ATV-5 and, once in the ISS, the space invader mosaic waited several months in zero gravity for the astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti (@astroSamantha) to reach the station and find its permanent spot.
This morning, March 12th 2015 we have news to say the mission has been completed and it had been installed on the european module Columbus with success!
“I would have never imagined that my Space Invaders project might take me that high.
What looked like an unreachable dream has come true as Space2 is the first space invader ever installed on a spaceship among real astronauts living in zero gravity and with Earth and the universe as a background ! Art, Science, space conquest : a great move !” Invader
