Since the beginning of October something magical has been happening in Dresden. ‘MAGIC CITY – THE ART OF THE STREET‘ is an exhibition full of creativity from an international list of uber talented street artists. In a unique collaboration the invited artists have created their own global dream city, which is open for visitodrs to explore in all its fascination.
MAGIC CITY presents today’s most vital and imaginative art form – Street Art – in all its diversity. Visitors are invited to embark on a journey of discovery addressing all of the senses, presenting, celebrating, and describing the wonderful world of Street Art. A 2,500 square-metre model city will stage imaginative graffiti and fly-posts everywhere, amazing 3D illusions of anamorphic art, and strange objects and sculptures; then, around the next corner, multimedia installations and epic murals are waiting and in contrast small figures are waiting to be discovered.
The artists who have been busy working inside the Magic City include: Akrylonumerik, Andy K, Asbestos, Ben Heine, Benuz, Biancoshock, Bordalo II, Brad, Downey, Dan Witz, Daze, Ernest Zacharevic, Ganzeer, Henry Chalfant, HERAKUT, Icy & Sot, Isaac Cordal, Jaime Rojo, Jens Besser, Juandres Vera, Lady Aiko, Leon Keer, Loomit, MAD C, Mark Bode, Martha Cooper, Oakoak, Odeith, Olek, Ori Carin / Benjamin Armas, Qi Xinghua, Replete, ROA, Ron English, Shepard Fairey, Skewville, SpY, Tristan Eaton, Truly, WENU Crew, Yok & Sheryo.
Magic city was curated by Carlo McCormick who calls his project “A Love Letter to the City”, and Ethel Seno, both of whom are acknowledged Street Art experts. They declared that their goal was to create a “playground for the imagination”, in a new hybrid form – on the one hand a classic exhibition, but without “art in frames”, and on the other, a type of street festival allowing visitors the freedom to wander through the rich displays without the need of a guide, just a map in hand!
As you walk into Magic city you will be greeted by the works of artist Akrylonumerik, where digital meets Street Art meets music in the eight-member collective’s interactive multimedia installation.
Then across by the toilets the work of Wenu crew. With his highly illustrated city encouraging the viewer to look at every detail.
Every city has an art gallery and in the magic city we find a graffiti gallery with photographs from photo journalist legends Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant. Graff writer Daze, who bombed the New York subways in the mid-1970s and writer FINO’91 who was born at the end of the 1970s in the American sector of divided Berlin. The graffiti gallery holds a lot of history.
Stroll along the passage and you will come across works by anamorphic writer Odeith, MAD C whose awesome work was created using different coloured caps, Ori Carino & Benjamin Armas, Iranian brothers Icy and Sot and German graffiti pioneer Loomit.
Entering the Plaza you will see Bordalo II big trash animals of a mouse created by trash sourced locally, Shepard Fairey, The master of anamorphic art Leon Keer and Ganzeer…
The city square hosts the crochet work of Olek.
Around the city square is Tristan Eaton, Ernest Zacharevic and Spy.
Have fun in the arcades with works by former break dancer Andy K and Jens Besser.
As you leave the arcade you meet up with Dan Witz work, who has been consistently active since the 1970s, he continues to create playful as well as political interactions with urban elements.
In and around the shopping arcade stand small men by Isaac Cordal, Benuz, Brad Downey, Anders Gjennestad and 3D painting by Juandres Vera.
Down the Blind alley you will come across a golden Mythical Creatures. The Truly crew artistic technique is an optical illusion based on perspective. The spectacular scenic effect created on large scales by these illusions never ceases to amaze.
Dotted around are works by Belgium street artist Roa and Biancoshock fusing activism, performance, and Street Art.

Replete has a building to himself. Where you will find his mural of a 3D fish.
Venture into the city hall and you will find Qi Xinghua, with his uber dimensional paintings, China’s first ever 3D artist has secured himself a permanent place in the Guinness World Records.
Around the hall you can find works by Ben Heine, Ron English and Herakut, where the duo painted Ernest Zacharevic into their mural.
Other artists work to be found in various places in the exhibition are mixed media master Asbestos, pop- and geek culture lover OAKOAK, who transforms the city into a play- ground and fun, and twin brothers Skewville tossing wooden sneakers over a telephone wire.
Popular news reporters Brooklyn street art (BSA) curated the film program for Magic City with a dynamic array of Street Art related films presented in the cities cinema. The BSA Film Program for Magic City includes the following artists: Borondo, Brad Downey & Akay, Ella + Pitr, Faile, Farewell, Maxwell Rushton, Narcelio Grud, Plotbot Ken, Sofles, Vegan Flava, Vermibus.

The exhibition can be seen in the Kultur-Quartier Zeitenströmung from October 1, 2016, to January 8, 2017. Following this, it will be presented in a series of other European metropolises, beginning with the Olympiapark in Munich from April 13 to September 10, 2017.
