Nuart Aberdeen Street Art Festival, Scotland 2017

When you hear about Nuart festival you immediately think of the successful street art festival in Stavanger, Norway… however, Nuart decided to fly over the North sea and visit its twin city of Aberdeen to hold a street art festival there!

In 1990 Aberdeen City, Scotland was twinned with the city of Stavanger in the West Coast of Norway. It can be found in the county of Rogaland. Stavanger is similar to Aberdeen in many ways. For example the population size is similar, both their economies rely heavily on the oil and fishing industry, both cities have an airport and a University and offers great hill walks. However, the street art scene couldn’t be more different. Stavanger is known worldwide for its ever increasing street art scene and Aberdeen is a blank canvas… until now!

Developed in collaboration with Aberdeen Inspired and Aberdeen City Council, Nuart Aberdeen is a new international platform for local, national and international artists to showcase their work through a series of site-specific murals, installations, interventions, and temporary exhibitions. Nuart Aberdeen saw eleven international street artists descend on Aberdeen over the Easter weekend, Friday 14 – Sunday 16 April.

Artists invited to take part in the Aberdeen festival included Robert Montgomery, Herakut, Julien de Casabianca, Jaune, Martin Whatson, Alice Pasquini Pas, M-City, Add Fuel, Isaac Cordal, Nipper and Fintan Magee.
