aptART (Awareness & Prevention Through Art) is a non-governmental, not for profit organisation set up to promote awareness and prevention of issues affecting children’s lives. aptART are back again with another worthy street art project in Iraq, with support from UNHCR Iraq and Qandil.

Iraq has experienced decades of displacement, yet the people continue unwavering hospitality to both refugees and those displaced within their own country. Leading up to World Refugee Day, June 20th, AptART painted with host communities as well as refugees and IDPs. When asked what they would like to paint together, youth selected animals and flowers including a deer, daffodils and roses.

The deer symbolizes grace even in difficult times. The youth then all painted leaves with ideas of hope, humanity and individual freedom.
