In the weeks leading up to the sixth Global Fund Replenishment Conference, a collective of the world’s top street artists have joined the campaign ‘PAINT (RED) SAVE LIVES’, the first global street art campaign created to bring urgent action in the fight to end AIDS.
Artists invited were DALeast, as well as Add Fuel, Bisco Smith, BRUSK, DALeast, Faile, Faith XLVII, Hera, HOW & NOSM, Inside Out Project, Karabo Poppy Moletsane, Ludo, Olek, Ron English, Shepard Fairey, Stephen Powers, Trevor & Cosmo, and WK Interact.
More than 25 unique PAINT (RED) murals and installations were revealed as part of a coordinated campaign across Washington DC, New York, Berlin, London, Paris, Jersey City, Accra, Malmo, Cape Town, New Delhi, Horsens, Nariobi, Manila, Lima, Ho Chi Minh City, Dakar, Oslo, and Lyon.
Chinese street artist DALeast painted in Lyon, France. Lyon was the epicentre of the ‘PAINT RED SAVE LIVES’ campaign, due to the Global Fund Replenishment Conference, attended by global leaders in October 2019. The (RED) Global Fund reached full replenishment of $14 Billion USD! This money will help save 16 million lives and cut the mortality rate from HIV, TB and malaria in half.
DALeast painted a majestic eagle in flight in his signature style. DALeast decided to keep the artworks already on the wall in situ. Here he explains why …
“…you might have noticed different styles beneath the bird, during the process of creating it, I decided to keep the artworks that were already there instead of covering them up. This way, it feels like a collaboration with all the artists who left their trace there. Much like the global fight against AIDS. I hope we can work and take off all together, leave the crisis behind.” DALeast Instagram
The striking mural is a beautiful shift of purple, reds and blue colours…
