Plastic pollution is a widespread problem affecting the marine environment. It threatens ocean health, the health of marine species, food safety and human health.

Shockingly, at least 14 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean annually. Plastic debris makes up 80% of all marine debris from surface waters to deep-sea sediments. The most visible impacts of plastic waste are the ingestion, suffocation, starvation and entanglement of hundreds of marine species. Plastic breaks down into microplastics (particles smaller than 5 mm) or nano plastics (particles smaller than 100 nm). Spanish street artist DadosPuntoCero DA2 ‘Sea of Plastic Series‘ murals are creating much-needed awareness and conversation on the excessive use of plastic and plastic pollution in the oceans. The murals are a visual warning to alert humanity to the devastating effects of plastics, an encouragement to recycle and greatly reduce plastic waste, stop one-use plastics and motivate us to rethink plastic.

“This series of murals is a call to attention to the citizen who selfishly does not recycle, and with this approach, I want to open his eyes so that from his selfish point of view, he thinks that if he does not recycle, he will finally eat it. It is a very complex problem to face, the pollution of seas and oceans, but the sooner we contribute our grain of sand, the sooner we create a mountain.” Dados Punto Cero
