Blek le Rat’s “Gold Jesus” is a striking and thought-provoking artwork that challenges traditional depictions of the crucifixion. The artwork features a stencil of the iconic imagery of Jesus on the cross but with the cross removed and set against a bold gold background. The stencil is skillfully executed, capturing the essence of the iconic image.

Blek le Rat first experimented with the image in the streets of Paris in 1986, featuring a head tilt opposite to the more recent stencil images.

In Miami in 2009, the artist’s “Jesus” stencil, featuring the cross removed, was combined with a graffiti tag, creating a unique fusion of street art and religious iconography. This combination also serves as a commentary on the perception of graffiti as a sin, often associated with criminal activity and vandalism.
