Heidelberg’s Deutsche Bahn Central Station, a crucial hub for travelers since 1955, remained notably blank and uninspiring on its north wall for 65 years. However, in 2020, that changed dramatically with the unveiling of a breathtaking mural by the renowned artist Pichiavo.

Inspired by the ancient myth of Ganymede and Zeus, this vibrant piece is not just a decoration; it serves as a welcoming beacon for all who arrive in the city. The myth centres around Ganymede, a handsome young Trojan prince, who was famously abducted by Zeus, transformed into an eagle. This theme of divine capture and transformation has been interpreted in myriad ways, but Pichiavo’s rendition infuses it with contemporary vitality and colour.
