Miami’s Skyline Butterflies: The Largest Rooftop Mural Unveiled by Mantra

Miami’s skyline has gained an extraordinary addition with the unveiling of the largest rooftop mural in the city, located atop the Southeast Financial Center (SEFC). Spanning an impressive 35,000 square feet, the mural, created by the internationally acclaimed artist Mantra and curated by Justkids, draws attention to the urgent issue of biodiversity loss.

Known for his hyper-realistic trompe-l’oeil style, Mantra, also known as Youri Cansell, captures the delicate beauty of butterflies, including the endangered ‘Miami Blue,’ native to South Florida, hand painted in intricate detail.

“It’s always a pleasure to paint in Miami, a city that thrives on its vibrant mix of people and cultures—much like the butterflies in my mural, which represent a diverse selection of specimens. This is my largest mural to date, and I am excited to see it come to life,” said artist Youri Cansell, aka Mantra. “I am grateful to Southeast Financial Center for giving me the space to create something of this magnitude.”

Completing this ambitious project required over 400 hours of dedicated effort, utilising 200 gallons of paint and unique techniques that showcased Mantra’s exceptional freehand skills. The mural signifies SEFC’s commitment to enhancing Downtown Miami as a cultural hub, transforming a simple rooftop into a vibrant celebration of nature and artistry.
