Celebrating Onur’s Mural: A Beacon of Change for Women’s Empowerment and Clean Water

The Berlin-based artist Onur has completed his #BigArtBiggerChange mural in downtown Houston, specifically at 1070 Dallas St, marking an exciting addition to the fifth season! This project was curated and produced by Street Art for Mankind.

This mural, titled “60%”, serves as a striking reminder of the vital connection between women’s empowerment and access to clean water, echoing the Sustainable Development Goals 5 and 6.

Did you know that over 2 billion people across the globe lack access to safe drinking water? Predictions suggest that by 2025, two-thirds of the world’s population could experience water stress. This crisis is especially challenging for women, who often endure long treks to collect water, limiting their time for education, work, and personal development. Addressing this issue is not just about providing clean water; it’s about creating opportunities for women to thrive and empowering them to take control of their futures.

The mural’s striking image features a young woman gently floating on water, symbolising our intrinsic connection to this vital resource. The title “60%” references the fact that a remarkable 60% of the human body is made up of water, highlighting the essential role that clean water plays in sustaining life—not just within ourselves, but across the globe.
