Mural H Street Art project, Barcelona Spain

Contorno Urbano are based in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, southwest of Barcelona, Spain. They have begun a new street art project called Mural ‘H’. The project intends to support artists who can paint on legal walls in the city in order to transform the city into a cultural hub.

The first Mural ‘H’ initiative project was based on social integration and the urban planning that’s attempting to span across all the neighbourhoods of L’Hospitalet.

Urban artist, Kwets1 , was invited to paint an enormous mural that transformed the Avenida Isabel la Catatólica in the l’Hospitalet del Llobregat tunnel. It took 12 weeks to cover the 1000 m² grey wall, used 1250 cans of MTN94, and was sponsored by Mémora group and Hune, in addition to Montana Colors.

The gigantic piece’s content represents the migratory birds that fly over L’Hospitalet every year, and serves as a metaphor that refers to the thousands of immigrants the city hosts and is capable of integrating each year.

Furthermore, the tunnel is one of the few routes that connects the north and south of the city, and is used by hundreds of people daily, who can all appreciate the work gone into beautifying the tunnel.

Montana recorded the whole project, and given the task of painting such a long tunnel Kwets1 certainly deserves the memory!
