Blu is an anonymous Italian street artist known for monumental murals that confront political power, social inequality and the contradictions of contemporary life. Active since the late 1990s, he developed a distinctive visual language built around surreal figures, exaggerated anatomy and complex narrative scenes painted across buildings and public spaces. His work often addresses capitalism, war, migration, environmental destruction and state control, using humour and unsettling imagery to challenge accepted ideas. Blu’s practice is closely associated with an anti-commercial, open-source philosophy, and he has repeatedly defended the independence of street art from institutional ownership. His murals remain among the most politically direct works in international urban art.
