Helen Bur is a British contemporary artist from Chichester, now based in Cornwall, known for figurative murals and paintings that explore identity, vulnerability and the human condition. After graduating with a first-class BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Cardiff School of Art, Bur became immersed in Cardiff’s independent arts scene, co-running the voluntary arts space, studios and gallery The Abacus, as well as helping to run the Empty Walls Street Art Festival for two years. This formative period helped bridge her classical fine-art training with the large-scale public practice for which she is now internationally recognised. Drawing on traditional painting techniques and contemporary urban culture, she creates sensitive narrative works shaped by gesture, memory and emotional tension. Her figures often appear caught in moments of reflection, resistance or quiet connection, inviting viewers to consider shared experiences across social and generational boundaries. Moving between public murals and studio painting, Bur combines painterly depth with a strong sense of social consciousness, establishing a distinctive practice that bridges street art, fine art and contemporary figurative painting.
