Pobel
The lowdown on Pobel
Pøbel is an anonymous Norwegian contemporary artist from Jæren, known for stencilled murals, paintings, photography, sculpture and site-specific projects. Active since 1999, he gained wider recognition through interventions on abandoned buildings in the Lofoten Islands, bringing street art into remote rural landscapes and provoking debate around depopulation, place and public space. His practice combines dark humour, social observation and carefully chosen locations to address political power, environmental change and overlooked communities. Moving between urban walls, isolated architecture and gallery works, Pøbel uses each setting as part of the artwork’s meaning, creating images that remain closely connected to Norwegian landscape and society.
