Banksy Strikes Again: New Mural of Palestine’s National Animal, the Mountain Gazelle, Unveiled at Kew Bridge in London

In typical Banksy fashion, the anonymous street artist has once again unveiled a new piece at Kew Bridge in London.

Confirming the piece on Instagram, Banksy’s latest mural features a compelling image of a Mountain Gazelle precariously perched on the edge, with the ground giving way beneath its hooves. Adding to the tension is the presence of a CCTV camera, ominously pointing towards the animal, capturing its uncertain fate.

The image of the animal has a striking resemblance to Palestine’s national animal, the Mountain Gazelle, with its large curved horns; males have bigger horns with rings around them. The animal spends most of its time at the top of mountains and hills. Like the vintage “LTD (limited) sign to the left of the image, Banksy posted, the Mountain Gazelle is also endangered.

The mountain gazelle is a national animal of Palestine. The gazelle’s agility and elegance are seen as a reflection of the Palestinian spirit – resilient and enduring in the face of challenges.

Banksy’s piece may be a commentary on the situation in Palestine. The gazelle’s position symbolises the region’s vulnerable state, while the looming presence of the CCTV camera suggests the world is watching.

This Banksy mural is located on the “Caxton Name Plate Manufacturing Co Ltd” Building in Kew, Richmond, TW9 3AP.

As with all of Banksy’s work, this latest piece has ignited debate and speculation, inviting viewers to engage with the artwork on multiple levels. As always, we can only speculate as Banksy is the only one who knows the meaning behind his murals, and we wait to see what he says… if anything.
