Nestled in the charming town of Mendrisio, Switzerland, a stunning mural captures the imagination and spirit of the community: a vibrant dandelion, its seeds elegantly flying out into the courtyard, onto the streets, and even reaching the nearby train station. This whimsical installation by artist Mona Caron is more than just a mural; it’s an invitation to explore, connect, and reflect on the beauty of nature and its resilience.

The dandelion mural serves as a bridge, leading visitors on a journey that begins at the image of the flower and extends into the wider world. As you follow the path of the painted seeds, you are naturally guided toward the “mother plant,” symbolising both growth and the interconnectedness of all life. In fact, some dandelion seeds have traveled as far south as Milan.

The mural’s unveiling was a momentous occasion, graced by the presence of Swiss-Italian author and poet, who concluded the event with a reading of his poem “Soffioni,” written in 2000. This poetic touch emphasised the theme of nature’s transient beauty and the enduring connections we forge through art and community.

The creation of this dandelion mural was a collaborative effort, showcasing the power of unity in local initiatives. The Fondazione Maletti generously allowed the plant to extend into the community, while residents of nearby buildings welcomed the addition of dandelion seeds flowing into the adjacent streets.

Even local authorities contributed by permitting the seeds to appear at significant entry points, such as the municipal parking garage and the train station.

This dandelion is a celebration of resilience—a reminder that, just like the seeds carried by the wind, we can spread hope and inspiration in even the most unexpected places.
The dandelion was commissioned by Fondazione Agnese e Agostino Maletti with assistance Milo Bissegger and Avv. Alessandro Guglielmetti.
