Space Invader is the pseudonym of a well-known French urban artist whose work is modelled on the crude pixellation of 1970s-1980s 8-bit video games. He took his name from the 1978 arcade game Space Invaders, and much of his work is composed of square ceramic tiles inspired by video game characters.
We last saw the French street artist Invading Marrakech a few weeks ago. Now the Invasion has moved to Rabat, Morocco’s capital, making the score an impressive 3436 Invaders over 69 Cities.
“One month after my quick invasion of Marrakech, I went back to Morocco to invade its capital city, Rabat ! Rabat is a wonderfull city, a perfect spot for the 20 mosaics I have disseminated in the narrow streets of the medina, full of riads, stray cats and zellige tiles but also in the new part of the city …” Invader
Rabat is the 69th city to be invaded adding more points to the total score of his smartphone app ‘Flash Invaders’. Fans accumulate points by shooting photographs of his work, submit pictures to Invader’s website and receive points for the photos.
In Rabat Invader placed twenty mosaics. You have to be up in the middle of the night to catch him, or a cat!! Here are some rare glimpses of the invader at work …
