Description
Banksy’s mural above London’s Old Street tube station, titled “Pulp Fiction,” pays homage to the 1994 American neo-noir, dark comedy crime film directed by Quentin Tarantino. It features the lead characters, played by Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta, pointing bright yellow bananas instead of firearms.
Sadly, the mural was erased by Transport for London in 2007 due to concerns about society’s deterioration rather than appreciating its creativity and anti-guns message. Banksy was inspired to create a new mural after a local artist spray-painted the words “Come Back” in the place of the original artwork. Banksy dressed the characters in banana costumes and accurate pistols this time, showcasing his creativity and sense of humour.
Later, Banksy paid tribute to two young graffiti artists who passed away by creating a new mural featuring an angel holding a skull and wearing a bulletproof vest.
Banksy released 150 signed and 600 unsigned screen prints of the “Pulp Fiction” mural in 2004.
