Six-Cubes (Blue & Orange) belongs to Invader’s Rubikcubism, the movement he developed using Rubik’s Cubes as both image and material. Rather than treating the cube as a novelty object, Invader turns its strict six-colour system into a disciplined visual code, building images through constraint, repetition and distance.
In this work, the Space Invader figure appears through the arrangement of just six cubes, reduced to its most economical form. Seen up close, the image breaks apart into coloured squares; from a distance, the familiar character sharpens into view. This shift between abstraction and recognition sits at the heart of Rubikcubism, where the viewer completes the image through movement and perception.
The blue and orange palette gives the composition a clean, optical intensity, while the small edition of just 20 adds to its rarity within Invader’s printed works. Minimal, playful and precise, Six-Cubes (Blue & Orange) captures the intelligence of Invader’s Rubikcubist language at its most distilled.
