The Crystal Ship Welcomes Three New Murals, Oostende Belgium, 2020

The 5th-anniversary edition of The Crystal Ship was sadly cancelled in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic and public safety concerns.

However, with the summer months bringing more positive news, ‘The Crystal Ship’ couldn’t let a year go by without some street art intervention, so they invited DFace, Case Maclaim and Elisa Capdevila to paint in Ostend, with the new locations being outside the city centre to guarantee safe visiting of the new artworks. 

The new areas were Zelliklaan, Duinhelmstraat and Wetenschapspark. Since 2019, curator Bjørn Van Poucke asks participating artists and visitors to reflect on a theme. In 2019, that theme was The Dictatorship of Art. In 2020, it’s Home Is Where the Heart Is.

London based artist DFACE takes inspiration from the coastal city and paints’ Mermaids Tale’ in Zelliklaan. This is a real show stopper …

Great to see Case Maclaim back in Oostende for a second year running. We last saw Case painting in the centre of Oostende on the facade of Ron’s Pub. This year you can find Case’s mural in Duinhelmstraat. In his photorealistic style, Case brings your attention once again the hands. This time a young man is washing white paint off his hands.

The third mural is by Spanish artist Elisa Capdevila. Her mural of a sleeping child can be found on the Oostende science park, Wetenschapspark.

Great to see The Crystal Ship add three new murals this year despite these testing times. Calm seas never made a good sailor! We can’t wait to see what 2021 brings!
