It’s a new day, and once again, Banksy has gifted London with another thought-provoking stencil work! Yesterday’s featured a possible Mountain Gazelle, and today, we are treated to the sight of two majestic elephants. Both street pieces are created in black silhouettes and contain animals.
The new piece features two striking stencilled elephants positioned in separate windows as though they are adjacent neighbours. On closer inspection, we can see the elephants differ; the one on the left has tusks, whereas the one on the right does not. African elephants, both males and females, can have tusks, while in Asian elephants, tusks are predominantly found in males and not in females.
What immediately catches the eye is the poignant detail of the elephants reaching out their trunks towards each other. It’s a powerful and emotive representation of the unique way elephants communicate through their trunks.

The choice of depicting the elephants in this manner evokes a sense of connection and empathy, highlighting the deep emotional bonds that exist amongst these majestic creatures. Additionally, the composition of the artwork cleverly suggests a play on the phrase “the elephant in the room,” a theme that Banksy has previously explored in his Los Angeles exhibition “Barely Legal”. This layered interpretation invites viewers to contemplate underlying issues or unspoken truths, urging us to engage in open dialogue and address the “elephants in the room” in our own lives and society.
