The ‘La Bodega / The Winery’ mural, painted by Burgos artist Christian Sasa, is located on Hernán Cortés Street in the Santa Catalina neighbourhood of Aranda de Duero and is a beautiful piece of art that reminds us of the precious moments spent with our loved ones.
As the artist Christian Sasa explains, “Good customs should not be lost, this work reminds us of those underground lunches where our grandparents made their wine and with the light of the lamp they created a magical scene.” This mural captures the essence of these memories, preserving them for future generations to appreciate.

The mural depicts local Manuel Gutiérrez with the Castilian beret, the wine jug from the winery of the Niño de la Capea peña, the cachaba and the cigarillo in one hand, along with the knife to cut cheese, the loaf of bread, and the chorizo on the table.

The collaboration between artist and protagonist arose by chance at the Los Arcos bar, where Christian Sasa saw in Manuel the perfect fit for his artistic vision.

The scenery is inspired by Christian Sasa’s memory of his grandfather gathered around his cellar table, tearing bread and enjoying a glass of wine. The warmth and joy on his face are palpable, and it’s easy to imagine oneself sitting at the table, sharing in the moment.

The mural was officially inaugurated on the 23rd of February, 2024, with Mayor Antonio Linaje and Councilor Andrés Gonzalo present; Christian Sasa and members of the Association of Commerce of Santa Catalina explained the project and shared information about other upcoming projects to improve the neighbourhood.
