Transforming Childhood Treasures into Art: The Kinder Toys Collection at the Invader Space Station Exhibition in Paris

The Invader Space Station exhibition by French artist Invader in Paris is a must-see for any art lover, especially those interested in street art, games and Kinder Eggs? One of the most surprising features of the exhibition can be found on the seventh level, where visitors are greeted with ‘TOYS’.

+This level presents two series that are very different in their form but which share a common base: the plastic toy used as an artistic material. + KINDER TOYS I have been accumulating Kinder Surprise type figurines for a long time with the aim of one day using them in my work. Part industrial plastic waste, little kitsch gems and Proust madeleines, I am using them here for the first time.+

The word “TOY” is often used in the context of graffiti to refer to a new writer. However, in the Invader Space Station exhibition, Toy refers to an array of Kinder Toys! The Kinder Toys collection serves as a playful reminder of the joy and creativity that can come from even the simplest objects. And once again, we enjoy a Kinder Egg surprise of a different kind!

The display is a collection of Kinder Surprise figurines that Invader has been accumulating for a long time, with the aim of using them in his work. These little kitschy gems, made of industrial plastic waste, serve as a Proustian madeleine, bringing back childhood memories.

The Kinder Toys collection is an interesting addition to the exhibition, as it showcases the artist’s personal interests and hobbies. It’s clear that Invader not only creates art but is also an avid collector. The larger-than-life depictions of his childhood treasures evoke a sense of childlike wonder and playfulness, compelling visitors to engage with them like big kids!

Walking through the exhibition’s white-walled corridors, the Kinder Toys tower above us reminds us of the surprises we used to find in our own Kinder Surprises. Who can forget the turtle figurines that were once so popular?

What’s especially fascinating about this collection is how Invader has used the Kinder Toys as an artistic material. It’s incredible to see how the artist has taken something so ordinary and transformed it into a work of art.

The Kinder Toys collection on the seventh level is a must-see for those who want to experience a unique approach to using everyday objects as artistic materials, which is excellent fun for kids and big kids. On the same floor, there is another toy, the Rubik’s cube, which Invader used as an artistic medium. This toy inspired his Rubikcubisim artworks and a unique artistic movement.
