Invader
The lowdown on Invader
Paris , France
Invader is an anonymous French contemporary artist from Paris known for pixelated mosaics inspired by early arcade games and digital culture. Since beginning his first Paris “invasions” in 1998, he has installed thousands of ceramic works across cities worldwide, adapting each design to its location and recording the intervention through maps, photographs and archive systems. His practice extends beyond street mosaics into prints, sculpture, installations and Rubik’s Cube works known as Rubikcubism. By translating the visual language of 8-bit graphics into physical urban space, Invader has created one of the most recognisable and participatory projects in international street art.
“Going into a city with tiles and cement and invading it is the most addictive game I have ever played.” Invader (French, b.1969)
